Union holding support rally at St. John’s Port Authority

ST. JOHN’S, NL – The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees (UCTE) will be holding an information picket tonight outside of the St. John’s Port Authority (SJPA). Workers for the St. John’s Port Authority are currently in bargaining with their employer.

This information picket is happening in support of the SJPA workers – by the union and friends of the union.

After several attempts to come to the table with a mediator, the SJPA refused to meet face to face with the PSAC bargaining team. The SJPA wants employees to answer emails while on standby, without being compensated properly for it. The employer refuses to leave the standby clause as is – by phone call.

This information picket will be targeting community members heading into the SJPA gala tonight. The goal is to inform the public of the bargaining for this small but important group of workers.

In attendance will be UCTE Regional Vice President Chris Bussey.

TIME: 6:00 p.m.

LOCATION: Across the street from the St. John’s Port Authority Building, 1 Water St, St. John’s, NL.
