Search and Rescue Aircraft Maintainers Held Demo at IMP Group International Inc’s Head Office
HALIFAX, NS – Members of the Union of National Defence Employees (UNDE) local 90120, a Component of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), who are employed by IMP Group International Inc. (IMP) organized a demo in front of the company’s head office. The purpose of the demo was to put pressure on decision makers to bring significant improvements at the bargaining table.
Martin Coady, president of UNDE local 90120, said the following: “We brought our message directly to IMP’s head office in Halifax. Our message is clear: bring significant improvements at the bargaining table! We are proud of the work that we do in ensuring that search and rescue aircrafts are well maintained and safe to be used in rescue missions. If IMP didn’t hear our message today, they will be reminded on a daily basis when they drive by our billboards that will be up very shortly.”
John MacLennan, National President of UNDE sums up the contentious issues at the bargaining table: “Simply put, IMP wants to jeopardize the working conditions of our members therefore putting at risk the maintenance of the equipment which means threatening the success of search and rescue operations. The company wants our members to be available to work more than 40 hours a week which would be devastating. We are also seeking improvements to sick leave, to the very poor retirement savings plan and wages, and we want to see work fairly assigned among our members.”
The collective agreements for the 85 employees who work in Gander, NL and Comox, BC expired on June 30, 2015.
