Report of the Provincial Director for Prince Edward Island, Dawn Hardy, February 2012-September 2012

The following is a brief summary of my activities:

  • Attended various meetings/union events since February:  PSAC Atlantic Council Conference calls,  PEI Federation of Labour monthly meetings as a member of the Executive Council – Recording Secretary), PSAC Human Rights meeting, PSAC Regional Women’s Committee meeting, PEI PSAC Area Council (President of the Area Council), UTE Local 90006 Executive Council meetings, UTE President’s Conference, the PSAC National Convention and UTE Standing Bargaining Committee (Member of the PSAC/UTE 2012 Bargaining Team).
  • I have created an email distribution list for the PSAC locals on PEIand have circulated materials to this distribution group to keep them informed.
  • Budget watch – helped organize the PSAC Budget Watch in Charlottetownand well as one in Summerside.
  • Worked with the PEI Federation of Labour and PSAC to organize the delivery of the “WFA letter” for our MP, Minister Shea.  The event turned into a “no-show Shea” event and we enjoyed the cake and good union company in her absence.
  • Attended the Press Release with the PEIFederation of Labour and the CLC on the “Union Advantage”
  • Attended, with Tony Tracy of the CLC, a meeting with IATSE Local 906B on the history of the union movement and the gains we have achieved.  Promoted the PEI Federation of Labour in hopes of the local becoming an affiliate and spoke of the PSAC and how we are organized.
  • Developed a newsletter for distribution for the Summerside Local 90006 – article contained information about our new MCHSI program and upcoming round of collective bargaining.
  • PEI Federation of Labour Picnic and BBQ – was part of the organizing team and volunteered at the event.  It was well attended by the PEI Federation affiliates and the public.
  • I’m in the process of organizing the September 15, 2012 “We are ALL affected Rally” to take place in Summerside in front of Minister Shea’s office.  We have a 10-metre petition that we are asking the public to sign, guest speakers and a treat for those who participate.

In solidarity,
