PSAC Officially Endorses Mary Shortall for MP of St. John’s East

ST. JOHN’S, NL – As a rare instance, the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) is officially endorsing Mary Shortall as Member of Parliament for St. John’s East. The union has never endorsed a political candidate in previous elections in the Atlantic Region. This is the first time that PSAC is endorsing a political candidate of any political affiliation.

Colleen Coffey, Regional Executive Vice President for the PSAC’s Atlantic Region explains the endorsement: ‘Mary has a proven track record of supporting workers and issues affecting them. As a representative of the Canadian Labour Congress and President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour, she has proven time and again that she’s an advocate for public services and PSAC members.’ Coffey adds: ‘Our members have always asked us to provide them with information in order to assist them in making an informed decision prior to going to the ballot box. This is the first time we can openly and happily say, with confidence and a proven track record, that they have a candidate that will defend them, their co-workers and the issues facing them.’

In the coming weeks, Ms. Coffey will be visiting the riding of St. John’s East to volunteer on Mary Shortall’s campaign.
