PSAC Members Employed by SERCO Rally to Launch Campaign Against Layoffs
HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, NL – Members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada employed by SERCO will be holding a rally on June 18, 12 pm at their workplace located at the main gate of the base in order to launch their campaign to prevent further layoffs.
To date, 11 employees have been laid-off and more are expected to come. The union will be launching a fightback campaign to pressure SERCO, their funder, the Department of National Defense (DND) and local politicians to put a halt to any further layoffs.
Jonathan Cull, President of PSAC-UNDE Local 90125 explains the situation: ‘We cannot accept that SERCO’s shareholders keep increasing their profits on the back of our local community. One job loss in Happy Valley-Goose Bay is too many as it has drastic impacts on the local economy. As of this weekend, you’ll be hearing our radio ads, seeing them on social media, local news outlets and billboards throughout the community. By continuing to work with our Town Council and the community, I’m confident we’ll be able to protect local jobs.
