Workers at the J. A. Douglas McCurdy Airport Rally for a Fair Collective Agreement
SYDNEY, NS – On December 6, members of the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees (UCTE) Local 80807, a Component of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), will be rallying at the Sydney/J. A. Douglas McCurdy Airport demanding that their employer negotiates a fair collective agreement now.
Colleen Coffey, Regional Executive Vice-President for PSAC’s Atlantic Region comments on the slow state of bargaining: “The other side just doesn’t get it; our bargaining team members will not accept proposals that see their existing working conditions rolled back.” Some of the sticking points are:
- the employer’s refusal to provide an Employee Assistance Program
- the employer refusing to acknowledge that employees who are trained to fight fires are indeed firefighters
