International Women’s Day 2023 campaign theme is #EmbraceEquity
International Women‘s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. IWD 2023’s campaign theme aims to get the world talking about why “equal opportunities are no longer enough.”
So, what’s the difference between ‘equity’ and ‘equality’ – and why is it important to understand, acknowledge and value this? Let’s start with a basic definition of each word. Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances, and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.
We can all truly embrace equity. It’s not just something we say. It’s not just something we write about. It’s something we need to think about, know, and embrace. It’s what we believe in, unconditionally. Equity means creating an inclusive world.
When we embrace equity, we embrace diversity, and we embrace inclusion.
We embrace equity to forge harmony and unity, and to help drive success for all.
Let’s all embrace equity today, and always.
