Join Us in observing March 21: Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

A message from Farid Tourkmani, Atlantic Regional Director for Racially Visible Members

Dear Members,

Today, the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, we are reminded of the ongoing struggle against discrimination in all its forms. This day holds significant importance as we stand in solidarity with communities around the globe, reaffirming our commitment to fostering equality and inclusivity.

Racial discrimination persists in various spheres of life, whether it be in the workplace, schools, communities, or beyond. It is imperative that we recognize and confront these injustices, advocating for meaningful change and standing up against racism wherever it may manifest.

As members of our union, we have a responsibility to uphold principles of fairness, respect, and dignity for all individuals, regardless of race or ethnicity. By actively challenging discriminatory practices and promoting diversity and inclusion within our workplaces and broader society, we contribute to building a more just and equitable world.

On March 21st, let us come together to reflect on the importance of combating racial discrimination and advancing social justice. Here are some ways you can participate:

  1. Educate Yourself: Take the time to learn about the history and impact of racial discrimination, both globally and within our own communities.
  2. Start Conversations: Engage in open and honest dialogues with your peers, family members, and friends about the realities of racism and its effects on individuals and society.
  3. Advocate for Change: Support initiatives and policies that aim to eliminate racial discrimination and promote diversity and inclusion in all aspects of life.
  4. Stand Up Against Racism: Speak out against discriminatory behavior or language whenever you encounter it, whether it’s in the workplace or elsewhere.
  5. Amplify Voices: Elevate the voices of those who have been marginalized or oppressed due to their race or ethnicity, and actively listen to their experiences and perspectives.

Together, we have the power to make a difference and create a more equitable world for future generations. Let us seize this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the fight against racial discrimination and work towards a society where everyone is treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.

In solidarity,
Farid Tourkmani
