6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

PSAC Halifax Regional Office, 172 Garland Ave., Dartmouth

The PSAC Nova Scotia Area Council 1 is having their AGM on November 12th, 2026, at the PSAC Halifax Regional Office at 6 p.m.  This will be a hybrid meeting in person or on zoom. Every local on mainland NS is entitled to have two delegate seats at council meetings.

To attend via Zoom: https://psac-afpc.zoom.us/meeting/register/ZjOjEjitRzKbDq3SbtZHIA

In the past, representatives from many of locals have actively participated in the Area Council, contributing to important discussions and decisions. It is our goal to reestablish this practice to ensure that all locals under our mandate are represented and have a voice in shaping our collective priorities and actions.

Area Councils carry out the Political Actions for the union.  Area Councils are constitutionally recognized as a direct link to grassroots membership and are one of the bodies that can submit resolutions to PSAC National Triennial Conventions.  Area Councils are also provided a delegate seat to the PSAC National Triennial Conventions.

We believe your involvement would strengthen our council and help us better serve the interests of our members. We would be happy to discuss this further and explore how we can make this collaboration meaningful for everyone involved.

As per our by-laws, the officers of this council shall consist of President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Direct Charter Locals Representative, Political Action Representative, Representatives from constitutionally-recognized and active Regional Committees such as Women’s Committees, Young Workers Committees, Human Rights Committees and any other constitutionally recognized committee within the Councils geographical area. These officers shall comprise the Area Council Executive Council.

All officers, with the exception of the Regional Committee Representatives, shall be elected from accredited voting delegates and officers in attendance at the Annual General Meeting. The Regional Committee Representatives shall be selected from the Committee delegates. If there are more than one regional committee for the same group, then those committees shall meet and select their representative. For example, Halifax Regional Women’s Committee and Annapolis Valley regional Women’s Committee.

Please refer to the by-laws linked here for further information on mandate and duties.

The following positions are up for election at this meeting:

  • President
  • 1st Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Directly Chartered Locals Representative
  • Political Action Representative

What does a PSAC Area Council do?

The Area Council carries out lobbying of politicians, helps to organize & carry out fightback campaigns & campaigns of a political nature on behalf of the PSAC, & allows discussion with other PSAC activists across component lines.  It gives the PSAC visibility in the community, & it can serve as a link between locals and the Atlantic Regional Council.   It allows direct charter locals convenient access to the PSAC and as well assumes responsibility for social activities for PSAC members and families in the region.

How does my local join the Area Council?

To join a PSAC Area Council you should contact one of the affiliated locals or the Regional Executive Vice President, or the nearest PSAC Regional office.  Membership is voluntary and you may drop by meetings at any time whether you are affiliated or not.  To affiliate you must simply pass a motion of affiliation at a local meeting and mail a copy of this intention to the Regional Executive Vice President and to your component, then drop by the meetings.
