Introduction to Canada Labour Code Part II

October 5-6, 2019

This course is an introduction to the Canada Labour Code, Part II. It will cover the internal responsibilities system, as well as the employer and employee responsibilities of this legislation. Introduction To Local Officers

October 19-20, 2019

This is an introductory course for any new officers or those who may be interested in the role of the local union officer.  This will give Local Officers essential knowledge for upholding their Local responsibilities and building a strong union.  Participants learn: how an effective Local functions; roles and responsibilities of the Local Executive; how Executives can work well as a team, how to engage members, and dealing effectively with management.

Advanced  Program
Advanced Local Officers

*POSTPONED TO JANUARY 31st-FEBRUARY 2nd, 2020*

Halifax

Ideally two or more members of the same local executive should participate in this course. You will develop leadership skills, problem-solving skills, and mobilization skills. Course content includes the role of the local executive, strategic planning, local activities, local committees and terms of reference, communicating and recruiting, representation issues and the Duty of Fair Representation, local meetings, improving the effectiveness of union management, consultation, and rights and protections of union representatives.

Advance Duty to Accommodate 

October 26-27, 2019

This course will help members to develop a broader capacity for effective representation on the issue of duty to accommodate for members with disabilities. Applicants should be union representatives who have had some training and exposure to issues related to duty to accommodate. It is preferable that applicants have also previously taken the Introduction to Duty to Accommodate course and/or the Grievance Handling course. See poster attached for more information

The Atlantic Region of the Public Service Alliance of Canada is pleased to provide an opportunity for Indigenous members to learn how they can navigate the structures of the PSAC.  This course has been designed for members who have had little or no previous involvement with their union and is a great first step to understanding how unions work for working people. This two-day training will provide members with a way of empowering themselves to effect change in their workplaces, communities and union.

Online learning

Our online program offers union training at your own pace and time. These introductory courses provide a solid overview on a range of topics. Explore the union’s basic roles and responsibilities including the services it provides all members.  If you are a union steward and want to increase your knowledge and hone your skills, our on-line stewards modules will help.
