National VP shows support for workers on strike at St. John’s Airport

ST. JOHN’S, NL – In a show of solidarity, PSAC National Executive Vice-President Chris Aylward, will be on the picket line for a BBQ and rally at St-John’s Airport from noon to 2 p.m. (NDT) on Thursday September 27.

PSAC Atlantic Regional Vice-President Jeannie Baldwin will also be in attendance as well as other PSAC members from St.John’s.

Aylward would like to send a clear message to the striking workers that they can count on the full support of the PSAC, as well as the entire labour movement in this country.

An important announcement concerning Newfoundland’s labour movement will take place during the rally.

PSAC members at St. John’s Airport have been on strike since September 11, 2012. They are seeking a wage increase that would bring them in line with comparable international airports.

Chris Aylward started his labour activism career as a shop steward for the PSAC Union of Taxation Employees (UTE) Local 90000 in the St-John’s Taxation Centre.  For this trip to Newfoundland, Aylward will be flying in and out of Gander Airport.
