#FixPhoenix Demo in St. John’s NL

As soon as PSAC members found out that Prime Minister Trudeau and his Cabinet were meeting in St. John’s, NL, they got to work and organized a demo to highlight the many problems they face due to the Phoenix Pay System.  in less than 24 hours, they rented a bus, mobilized members and allies and organized a successful event. Different media outlets were on site to cover the event.  You can also view the complete photo album.

When we held our #FixPhoenix demo in St. John’s this week, the hotel manager of the Sheraton asked us to leave the premises.  Note that the Liberal government never made such request, it came from the hotel manager himself.  Other union leaders including myself were quite upset by that request, therefore we sent a letter to the general manager.  Mary Shortall, President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour also sent him a letter.  You can find those letters below.

Once again, I would like to thank our Council Directors, Chris Lansdell and Leanne Moss for demonstrating initiative and leadership in organizing this last minute demo.

Solidarity,

Colleen Coffey
