Postponed Until February, 2018   The next meeting of the Halifax Young Workers cttee will be held :   Wed, Jan 17th 5:30 pm in the Cal Best Boardroom, 287 Lacewood drive.   We will be adopting the By-laws, setting a workplan for 2018, discussing training, talking about our Social media presence, drawing up a 2018 Budget, working on the YW trivia contest.

The mandate of the Social Justice Fund (SJF) is to support initiatives in five priority areas: 1-Anti-poverty initatives in Canada; 2-Humanitarian assistance in Canada and around the world; 3-International labour development; 4-Worker-to-Worker exchange; and 5-Worker education. In 2017, the SJF supported the following groups/projects in the Atlantic:

The Eskasoni Teachers’ Union (PSAC Local 80510) is made up of over 100 teachers and teacher’s aides serving the Mi’kmaq community of Eskasoni. The membership is comprised of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous members, who work as educators in four different schools. They are a relatively young local, achieving their first collective agreement in 2010. Since then, they have established themselves as a fixture within the community of Eskasoni, sponsoring sports teams, cultural events, and annual bursaries. They have made financial donations to various charitable causes within the community.
