  • The Atlantic School brings together union activists from the four Atlantic Provinces with a foundation in union education to advance their skills in the company of the region’s most activated members.  The school’s in-residence program is tailored to deliver advanced courses in both official languages, while immersing participants in union culture.  This year’s school is called Building it Stronger: a union school for movement builders.  You can find out more about the 2018 Atlantic School theme and the course offerings in the information attached.  

  • Grievance Handling – This course provides new PSAC Shop Stewards with essential basics for grievance handling and effective stewarding.

  • Violence Prevention in the Workplace - This course will highlight the legal requirements on violence prevention with Part II of the Canada Labour Code and assist participants knowing the existing recourses available to prevent and deal with violent occurrences in the workplace. This course is open to Health and Safety Committee members, Local Executive members and Local Stewards who have knowledge and experience with Health and Safety Legislation.

  • This training will equip participants with basic skills to interpret their Collective Agreement & to apply it to their day-to day experience at work. It will then explore 2 major dynamics that influence the     outcomes of the collective bargaining process. Participants will take a critical look at how politics & economics impact their lives & the terms & conditions of their work. They will then discuss strategies for strengthening their agreements through member mobilization & collective action.

  • Local Officers Training - This is an introductory course for any new officers or those who may be interested in the role of the local union officer. This will give Local Officers essential knowledge for upholding their Local responsibilities and building a strong union. Participants learn: how an effective Local functions; roles and responsibilities of the Local Executive; how Executives can work well as a team, how to engage members, and dealing effectively with management.
